Leaking voltage somewhere?
« on: March 06, 2015, 12:39:41 PM »
Hello guys,

I have been attempting to start my re-built cb750 k7 and I think the battery is preventing it from firing up because of the following problem:

I have a battery (couple seasons old) which worked fine last season, stored it in my house all winter and now I have re-installed it into my bike. I charged it all last night, charger showed the fully charged light on today (which means it was fully charged at one point) but today it was reading ~10V.

Some things I noticed:
-with the charger on the battery the voltage was increasing slowly (charging fine)
-with the ignition "on" and the kill-switch "Run", voltage decreased by ~2/3 volts (!) Is this normal?
-with ignition "on" and kill-switch "off", voltage did not drop

So I think I have a load somewhere on the harness that is killing my battery and wont let my bike start. Does anyone have a clue for me with regards to where I should start the hunt if this is a problem?

As always, thanks for your help! If you need any more detail let me know.

Edit: After more searching around I think it might just be the battery itself. I'll buy a new one later today and see if that fixes it.

its seem to the ignision coils is sucking the power...but try to turn light on..and thek the drop of volts...if it are masssive..thek for heating in viring hareness..and korosion...specily on solonis (start relæ)..and grounding  negative vire and /battery positive vires..are they getting hot..

thek the battery at a shop..they have a "toaster" vho pulle strong. ampares.and test if full kapasity are home..before baying a new battery..
i have just bayed the thina types batteries..they hold for 4-5 years..so are just as good as other brands..have them on all my 5 bikes..no one failures for some years...

is your starter funktion,,it takks  up to 100 amps..

Get a load test done on the battery and then buy another one.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Lead acid batteries have a self-discharge, even when disconnected and stored inside. The best way to recover one is to apply a load, such as the headlight, and drain the battery a bit before putting it on a charger. BTW, I don't trust any charger with an LED; use a voltmeter while the battery is charging, as it will give clues to it's condition.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
