new guy here...need some advice
« on: March 10, 2015, 07:27:18 PM »
So my winter project is almost done, the weather is starting to warm up (for now anyway), and I'm really itching to get back out on 2 wheels but now my wheels are the problem! I picked up a '75 cb750 in September and I've got pretty much everything rebuilt and almost put back together. When I bought the bike it was just the frame, a motor, and boxes of parts (could be risky I know but I've got a little bit of experience and I figured I'd be rebuilding everything anyway). My snag now is I'm pretty sure the lesters it came with are for a yamaha. The rear fits ok, it's a bit off center but it's nothing some new spacers can't fix. I'm just not sure what to do about the front mainly because the axle is very different from the Honda one. I'd really like to use these wheels because they look great and I've already put new tires on them but my project fund is about depleted! Is there a cheap way to make it work? Any help is very much appreciated

Which is the larger diameter, the stock honda axle or the "unknown axle'? And does the axle fit through the lester hub?

You're not providing a great amount of detail as to the exact problem on the front...

Here's a pic comparing the Lester to the Yamaha wheel. Lester on the left.
The spokes on the Lester stop flat at the rim. The lip on the rim is wider, too.
The Yamaha spokes  curve down onto the lip, which is narrower than the Lester.

They're a pretty close match and those not "in the know" might not notice. A front Lester usually goes for $100 and up. The Yamaha wheel can be found in wrecking yards for about $10.
Bolt pattern for discs are the same, but I don't know about disc offset. I've seen pics of people using the Yamaha wheel on the front of a SOHC4, but I have no idea what it takes to make it work as far as axle, bearings, spacers, etc.

Pulled this from another thread on here, but you might have the Yamaha wheel clone and not an actual Lester (just going off of your pic).

It's a little motor and likes having the tits revved off it.

The Yamaha axle is bigger and attaches to the forks differently

Wow, you're absolutely right. Probably explains why there's no lester sticker on a spoke like the rear wheel has. Thank you for that
