Hello from PNW with K0
« on: February 09, 2015, 12:49:13 AM »
Hello, my name is Eric and I am starting a restoration project on a 1969 CB750 my dad has given me.  He bought it new while overseas on tour in 1969 and enjoyed it for years, but he let it sit on the side of his house for 30 years and it will need full restoration.  It is not a Sandcast but has a pretty low VIN.  It is very well documented up to the point it was left to sit.  I am really looking forward to restoring this bike and making it back to what it once was.  I know it will be a lot of work and have put money aside for this project.  I am determined to have this bike back on the road soon (relatively speaking)  It was the first bike I ever rode on (with my dad when I was 8 years old) and I can't wait to take my son on a ride with it.  (He is 7 now, maybe I can get this done in a year and he will ride with me on it when he is 8 as well.  Goals are good right?)

I am going to probably going to use a shop to help do some of the restoration work.  I would love suggestions if anybody knows a recommended shop in the Portland, OR area.  I plan on documenting the restoration work here on the forums.

Looking forward to being on the road with it.  Wish me luck.

Welcome...nice find right outside your door :)  Sounds like a great project with nice sentimental value. Before you leave a bike with a shop be 100% sure they have some old guy able to work on it. Bring in some pics for them first. Most of the shops here in WI do not have anyone with knowledge to work on these old bikes. You may want to consider getting Hondamans (member here) CB750 service book and do it yourself with the members help. You said the bike is pretty rough and I would imagine sitting outside all this time the engine is froze - meaning if you try to kick it over in neutral the motor will not kick over. Pistons are stuck to the cylinder walls. One thing for sure is you came to the right place. The guys here are so willing to share what they know and to help. Good luck and post up some pics when you can.
