1978 CB750 K8 wiring query
« on: March 14, 2015, 02:42:22 AM »
On the wiring diagrams I have, the extra green wire with female spade terminal is not shown.

It is by the coil feeds and is in addition to the ring terminal earth lead with sheath, does anyone know where it should connect?

Started testing the wiring and find indicators/blinkers work OK but dash warning lights for both sides flash, is this a US spec norm?

Indicators were missing from bike and have fitted with single filament bulbs/holders.

Appreciate any guidance.

Thanks

That green by the coil is a spare you will find another one under the left side cover by the flasher and a spare brown wire in the bucket. This is for USA bikes. Don't know about UK.

You have the mystery green wire that in stock form usually tests as a ground. It is an extra wire which you can use f you like. The best guess is that they made up the harnesses in big lots to be used on several bikes and ours does not need the wire.

Found the problem with warning lights as I had not connected earth to them  :-[

It must have been  earthing through the indicators, causing both warning lights to flash.

Just ran into this while installing a wiring harness from vintagecb750.com.  Without looking at the diagram (cuz who needs instructions?) just thought i'd attach the extra ground (green) wire to the screw on the horn.  got everything else all connected and spent 2 hours wondering why it wouldn't start... Yeah that thing doesn't belong, disconnected it and vroom.... so cut it, seal it, forget it exists.  And apparently wiring diagrams aren't for pussies.
