Finally, first build 99% done, '82 CB650SC
« on: March 14, 2015, 10:29:41 AM »
Hi guys, new here.  I dig the forum, I usually just browse the good, helpful info shared here. :)

Bike is a 1982 Honda CB650SC nighthawk.  I bought the bike, mostly running for $300.  I tore it completely apart, put a bit over 330 hours into it, rebuilding the motor, clutch, carbs, custom frame mods, cleaning, paint, etc.  Has a 2006 GSXR front end on it.  Completely custom electronics and retained all OEM things like blinkers, etc.  Gauge is the TNT by Koso.  Has a GM HEI ignition, aftermarket VR124 Regulator and 50A Rectifier ( https://scontent-sjc.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xaf1/t51.2885-15/e15/10949041_1607697059449792_1367048775_n.jpg ), ballistic 8C LiFe battery, etc.  Its been a fun project, with only a few tuning and hiccups along the way.  Here are all of the build pics:  http://ebaudio.com/MyPics/index.php?path=1982_honda_cb650sc
my goal was to go through everything and try to make a fully restored cafe bike.  Not the best platform to start with, but it has been a fun and enjoyable project :)

Most recently, I just finished painting the tank ford grabber blue.  still a few small issues that I am slowly weeding out.  Gets to 100 faster than my car easily too haha

bike when I got it

and mostly completed.  pic below from first the first ride, notice my flat rear tire lol. had bad luck, tire was low, forgot to recheck.  came off the bead.  also had an issue with the front brake locking up.  turns out that is something aftermarket evers cause on the gsxr master cylinder.  I machined down the plunger rod in the MC and it solved that issue.

Thanks for looking.  I have some pics and info also on my IG page if youre interested.  its almost my build log too lol. https://instagram.com/erikinsac/

I've always like the lines of the tanks on that era Nighthawk and I'm digging the blue color you painted it.

Very nice job.

Very nice bike.  You got the "ugly" out of the Nighthawk -- not the easiest thing to do.  The bike looks very tidy.

Any modifications to the engine (big bore, porting, cam, etc.)??

Thanks guys!  The engine was just rebuilt on the top end.  Honed, new rings, valve seals, cleaned the head and lapped the valves.  everything is stock internally.  I just wanted it to run well, wasnt worried about ultimate power.  The bike is under 400lbs.  I can jerk lift both wheels off the ground, its light, so that helps ;)

Erik,

Where did you source the seat?  Are you happy with it?  Construction, etc.?

Any chance you still have that back rest from the original bike?
