It's basically hilly high desert here, about 4500' elevation. I can be in the pines within 20-40 miles, depending on which direction I go. What's the elevation in Tucson?

Harris,
I don't think it would hurt to decarbonize the pistons,rings & ports while you're at it;2 strokes carbon up easily depending on the oil & amount you're running.
The pics of the cylinders you posted didn't look too bad from where I'm sitting... but you'd be surprised at how much better they run w/ just the rings carefully decarbonized. What did you find so far? locked up clutch/primary drive ?

I'm in Oro Valley, on the northern edge, and it's right around 3,000 feet here. Had a kooky dinner in Williams last fall on my way to hiking the Bright Angel trail with a buddy in the Canyon. That town cracks me up. Beautiful country there. /hijack

He must have too big of a backlog of carb. work so he can't work on his RZ.. I'd sure like to hear a little update  ???

I'm to blame for the delay. It's sitting on the lift with the head off and the cylinders free. The pistons are NOT stuck as prior. James pulled the clutch cover to see if something obvious was happening in there, and we got our hands on a factory service manual and that's as far as we got. We're in a sprint this week, James is indeed busy with carb work and I'm concentrating on this at the moment:



While keeping this project (total restoration of a '75 Z1 900) moving...

Yeah Steve-o, in fact it was done on Monday, looked amazing, but they filled in the VIN stamp. The VIN is also on the sticker (repro thereof is due to arrive any day from Switzerland), but I can't take the chance that they'll spit the hook if it's not visible stamped in the frame, so they are tweaking that somehow now.

The local PC guy did a good job on my frame's VIN stamp,it was very lightly stamped from the Honda factory and there was rust;he sandblasted it and was real light w/ the PC in the headtube area,I'm happy.
I hope you guys find the cause of the 'locked-up drive' on the RZ ! good to hear that the top end is nice.  8)

Not yet, I plan on taking the clutch basket next and then possibly the engine.  Haven't been able to work on it, not enough play time.

Noblehops took the reigns of the engine disassembly and exploratory surgery, so a thanks to him!

We everything moves inside but the crank.  Cause of seizing from what we can tell:  Extreme lacquer!  Currently submerged in solvent and already able to move now.  Will see where we're at in the morning.
