Leaky neutral switch- 550
« on: March 16, 2015, 04:21:07 PM »
Why am I having such a hard time finding a replacement seal for the neutral light switch on my '76 550? Surely this part is still available?

I've seen posts that refer to an o-ring that seals the switch, but mine sure looks like a seal (similar but not identical to the shift shaft seal). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks so much,

TF

Just to clarify, the seal in question is the upper one in this picture.

Also, do you have an o-ring chain? I see some wear on one of your seals.

Thanks so much, Dave.

I ordered some seals just now. I was calling it a neutral switch seal instead of shifter drum seal.

The PO must have had an O-ring chain on it, because that wear was there when I got it. It had a standard chain on it when I got it, and I just replaced the chain and sprockets with a new standard roller chain, and no issues so far.

Thanks again!

Cool, no problem. I had chain wear from a PO using an oring chain too. My seal was worn much worse than yours. Now when I see it on someone else's bike I have to make them aware.
