Electrical Problem!! K3 CB750 Help!!
« on: March 15, 2015, 01:41:08 PM »
When I hook my battery up there is current draw coming from somewhere and I don't know where to start looking.  With the ignition switch off, as soon as I connect the terminals the turn signal light and oil light come on.  The tail light also comes lights up.  Any advice or help on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

I would start at the switch.  Is it stock?

Yeah it's all stock.  By switch do you mean the ignition switch or the run/off switch?

Agree,  seems like an ignition switch problem.  Does your bike have two separate keys, one for ignition and the other for seat?

Most likely the ignition switch is an aftermarket EMGO-which is not the most reliable thing ever made. I have had one fail almost immediately and others last several years.  ....Larry

Ignition switch is broken. Can you take a picture of it? It's likely you either have a broken switch, or, you're removing the key with the switch in the ACC position. Some older switches can allow the key to be removed despite being in postion 1 or 2.

Do the lights go off if you rotate the key?

I don't think it's the ignition.  The bike just caught on fire and I had to put t out with a water hose.  I noticed the forks were arcing right around where the tree connects.  Next thing I know the section where all of the electrical components are started smoking and the wires were glowing red hot.  This all happened with the ignition switch off.

Hmm a fire eh--  That adds a little to the equation  :D   Was going to day there is a parking break feature on the ignition switch but that idea may have been burned to hell   :o
