Anyone got a stock cb750f1?
« on: March 18, 2015, 01:06:56 PM »
Ive been putting the wiring back in my f1 but am getting confused.
Has anyone got a pic of behind the side cover so I can see how all the wires ran? Im also not sure what route the starter and alternator cables take after they leave the sprocket cover.
Lastly, I seem to have a left over cable, earth? Its about 5" long and bent in a U shape. Only place it seems to sit well is from the battery to one of the battery tray fixings.

Thanks.

I was lucky. I got mine with the wiring all in good, working order. ;D When I get home tonight, I will snap a few pictures of all the wire routing. I believe mine is almost as stock as you can get, and I hope it will help!

Sorry I don't have a picture but it is normal to have a spare earth (green) behind the left cover. There is some speculation as to what it's purpose is, but my best guess is to cover the option of fitting a three prong flasher unit, particularly as the angled female terminal (at least this is the case on the F2) is the same as those used on the flasher unit. Of course, you could utilise it for anything really where an earth connection is required.

Its not a spare loom wire, its just like the battery to frame earth cable but 5" long.

Perhaps a PO wanted to add an additional earth from battery to frame and used that cable. Kind of belt and braces approach. Pretty sure it's not stock.

Wher does the neg from the battery run currently? It should be on the rear engine bolt where it passes through the frame - you need good metal to metal contact. Might explain the mystery wire if there is poor contact there.

I haven't run across any wire like that on my '76. Was it loose like that when you got the bike, or did you remove the cables to rewire?
Maybe it's case-to-frame ground, or a spare the previous owner left behind.

BTW is that the original frame finish? It looks nice.

Here you go. Not sure if they will help, but worth a shot. BTW, I'm pointing to the positive off the battery

That wire is not stock, pitch it. Looks like you've done a good job so far.

Thanks folks.
Frame is freshly powdered. While frame was being done I re wrapped the loom. This wire was attached somewhere when I took it apart. I had put it with all the battery box/electrics stuff so it must have come from that area.  If its not stock ill leave it off.

Battery neg runs to between the motor and frame, left had side of top rear bolt.

Now that we got mystery wire settled, can someone post a pic of their alternator cable? I believe it ran up along the frame, and connected to the harness around there. I'd post a pic, but I've already chopped up my harness and customized it.

Be sure there is no powder on the neg to engine case mounting spot! Gotta be clean aluminum and the neg wire terminal cleaned.
