74-'76 CB550K RH switch wiring
« on: March 22, 2015, 05:59:06 PM »
ok 1st off this switch isn't on a Cb550 bike, its on a Amen Plunger frame bike that I replaced a faulty  RH switch. No gauges / speedo or use of the starter button...  i want to be sure before i start connecting the wiring..
Switch color wiring is as follows and how i believe they connect;

1. black = power for cutoff switch
2. black = power for lights
3. black/white = to coils from cutoff switch
4. brown/white = to headlight

5. green/red = starter ( not used )
6. yellow/red = starter ( not used )

do i have it right?

Brown and white is fed current when headlight switch is on....looks correct, but it also feeds other circuits, but not sure that'd
matter on a non stock bike tho.

The switch in the above pic does have the on-off function for the headlight. Color coded correctly,
6 wire switch.... Pre dated models that had "headlight always on" feature? Or did I miss something? ;)

DH - the "off" function on RH control is for the engine not the HL. The rocker switch for HI/LOW is on LHASA control.

Yep, the dimmer is on the left control, but the on/off on the right control is for the headlight. My K0 550 is identical to the switch in the
pic, with as many wires and color coded the same. A K3 bike I believe will have a 5 wire switch on the right control with no on off, and be wired accordingly. I think the 550 changed in 76 model year along with the K6 750, and of course, they're different than F models. I'd guess the O.P. could use the brn/wht wire to power a headlight or a relay for one on his custom frame.
