I have a 77 cb550 that I made into a bobber. When I got it all the harness and wiring components were hacked up and not on the bike. I tried to wire up the original system with the separate Regulator and rectifier and the rectifier was bad. I had a SHU232-12 regulator and rectifier combo so I wired that in. My question is, Is the the SHU232-12 intended for a permanent magnet alternator? Right now I have the field hooked to my ignition switch so it puts out the max. I think it is a shunt type R/R and It would regulate the full output from the stator. Its putting out 14.5v or so at 3-4000rpm and if you slowly drop the rpm's the voltage will drop to 13v or so then it will just drop out and my meter starts bouncing around. I have not run it like this long. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.
