Exhaust gasket sides
« on: March 21, 2015, 05:09:26 PM »
Does an exhaust gasket have a 'side'?  I actually looked at the new ones before installation and noticed that one side is flat'ish, the other round'ish.  Does it matter which side goes out?

Good question, I don't believe so.  I just installed some on my K7 last week, a couple little dabs of grease on it before placing it on the head will hold it in place.

I don't think it really matters, but I would put the rounded side against the head, just because the head is softer aluminum than the steel pipe.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

That's what I ended up doing.

Looking at the curved side I figured that the flared head on the pipe would tend to crush poorly.  So I put the curved side against the head.

Not that it really matters, the gasket was essentially crushed just putting it into the hole.  It really is a soft material.
