Cheers!
Admittedly, I never thought I'd dabble into a 70's-style Honda -- at least not until I'd reached the 50-year mark. I figured that I would continue riding/racing sporty Yamaha R6's or fancy Aprilia RSV's for a few decades THEN trade in the leathers for a CB.
Nope.
I believe I first began seeing the light after I'd moved from a college town just off the Blue Ridge Parkway to the capital city of Raleigh. Twisty, calm roads were replaced by multi-lane, noisy interstates. To me, the satisfaction and joy of from riding had faded. I soon became motorcycle-less, which actually made the girlfriend quite thrilled, especially after heard my vow to never to own a "dangerous" motorcycle again.
Sooooo the evening before the proposal to my now fiance, I made a special trip to Virginia to pick up a 1975 Honda CB550k found on Craigslist. The logic being, once I propose and she accepts, she not only accepts a lifetime of regular Drew, but a lifetime of motorcycle Drew. Brilliant! A 70's CB was a much easier sell than an R1, plus I've been really itching to tear down and rebuild a motorcycle for quite some time.
Here she is (the picture that was sent to me by the seller...)
My parents live about an hour away in a remote area with plenty of solid riding territory. I plan to give it a more modern look with subtle minimalism but also bad-ass features.
Enjoy.
