I need another bike
« on: March 18, 2015, 05:09:02 PM »
Has anyone here ever ridden a VF45 Sabre?  I'm looking at picking one up but to be honest I haven't a clue what this bike is really like.  My assumption is that it's an early 'sport' type bike from Honda that would feel pretty good blasting down the road on.  But then again - maybe it's a pig, and basically more modern version of my 550k.

I'd love to hear more about it, because I really have the itch, but I don't need another pig in the stable.

It will blow almost anything of the same displacement (750?) away.  It's a dohc 4 valve per cylinder v4.  I have a VF500F Interceptor, same basic engine but its a 500cc sport bike.  Magna, Interceptor, VFR, and your Sabre are all the same basic engine platform.  These are much harder and more complicated to work on than the sohc4's, but make a lot more power.
If it works good, it looks good...

God they suck to work on. And....they have a million parts. How about an old FJ1200 or something.

The work doesn't bother me, I have two other bikes so it's not like if it doesn't run I'm SOL.  The price is steep, but I'm looking for that sweet spot between cruising around town CB550 and touring the highways of the 1200GS.

I noticed it was water cooled, that worries me a bit, head gaskets are actually critical on them, water pumps, temp switches, etc.  Well you get the idea, you did mention it was pain to work on.

I'm not totally sold, I just saw it and thought "that looks like a really cool bike!"

What ever you do make sure parts are still available for it. My kid had a first gen vf500 interceptor and and found out those early v4's were nearly impossible to find parts for and yeah it was a PITA to work on.

There actually is a Yama 750 same general era that's also on the market.

One of my favorite Honda's.
Would be nice to have a few specifics like mileage etc listed in the ad.

I'm on my way to getting it.

I needed a towing kit for the truck, else I wouldn't have had a way to get it home - no matter what I got.  So I have a tow receiver on order, 500 lb capacity.

I've owned a few, send me a message and I'll try to answer your questions. I've got manuals and a wiring diagram I can send you.
