4 year old wants tools.
« on: March 22, 2015, 10:03:39 AM »
My almost 4 year old granddaughter was here last week, she helped me put timing belts on a goldwing and she visited while we were building a funnycar chassis. She went home and told her parents she needs a hammer, and some tools, clean tools, and white shop towels and a garage. When asked why, she said so Papa can come over and help her build things.
Brought a tear to an old mans eye, her mother asked for tools at that age too. she still has them.

 ;D Love it.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Get her some tools Don.  I was given basics when about 4 or 5.  Got a whole tool chest full when I was 11.  The earlier the better I believe..if they express the interest.  Many of the younger generation nowadays (under 40) don't even seem to know how to do basic stuff.

Computers and IT technology are great..but if we lose our basic manual and practical skills..I suggest we're in for serious trouble as a society.  Whatever happened to shop and drafting classes in junior high and high schools?  They still teach that in Japan..parts of the EU.  Why not here?

Yeah..I'd cry too..tears of joy..if I saw that in a child or grandchild of mine..

Later Bro..

Her mother asked for fisher price kool tools, they were plastic toys. For almost the same money we bought her a set of craftsman tools. Her older sister got wind of it and asked for tools too so we bought a second set. The younger one helped me mig weld our jr dragster trailer. They both drove jr. dragsters  and the middle one still drives our family Dragster. Her best time is 7.44 at 182 mph.
Yes, she will get her tools, a birthday is coming. I just saw a toy car on facebook that kids can auctually work on. Hmmm, there's a go kart and a mini bike upon the shelf.

My folks bought me a Handy Andy tool kit for my 5th birthday (1954).  One of my first projects was to attempt to saw one of the basement stairs in half.  :o  I still have the screwdriver though.  Couldn't get into too much trouble with that.  ;D

I still have my (my first tool box). I've got a couple of the screwdrivers. There was a saw and hammer, pliers, I'm not sure what else. The first thing I did was disassemble my record player. My brother in law fixed it.

Awesome. :) My daughter has two tool kits. They are wooden, but she has plenty of nuts and bolts, a saw, couple hammers and screwdrivers and wrenches... I can't wait to get her to be my second set of hands in the garage.

My dad is a cabinet maker and metalworking teacher. I grew up around fabrication and building. I'm the only one of my siblings to really stick to it. I'm glad my dad can pass it on to my kids, and so can I.
