What ignition is this?
« on: March 26, 2015, 11:52:13 AM »
Bought a 77 CB750F SS about 10 years ago.  Didn't know much about bikes and thought this ignition was stock, when the bike was totaled, I pulled this off for a friends bike.

10 years later I have a 78 Cb750k with a points system which leads me to believe this unit wasn't stock as it seems like the 77 should have had points.

Anybody recognize it and know if it can be fitted to my 78?
Thanks

I think it may be a Prestolite.  Low cost back in the day.  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,80458.msg900174.html#msg900174

It looks like a Prestolite ignition and yes it can be re-used. Looks like you have the right cam for it on the advance mechanism. They weren't meant to be a performance item, more a points replacement, but I installed one in 75 and it worked a charm for 35 years.

Edit, ekpent beat me to it.

Just make sure the advancer is nice and free to move and you are good to go.

And if you remove the cam from the advance mechanism, make sure to re install it correctly.
