« on: March 25, 2015, 08:04:12 AM »
I just started going to a new M/C machinist here in PA.,so far he's done 2 small jobs for me and charged me a 'tax' similar in rate to PA. state sales tax on the jobs ?
Does that sound right to any of you ?

All labor that generates labor is usually taxable, in NYS, any service is taxable with a few exceptions in construction such as this example... I can paint your new door for you  with no tax... if I paint your old door it's taxable... purchasing the new door there's sales tax and if they can't get you there they'll damn sure get it on the next time a contractor refinishes it.
Any sale of any item is taxable in NY except a real food product, potatoe chips ...taxable, but fresh produce is not. You can buy the cold cuts and fixins to make a sandwich... no tax, somebody makes you a sandwich, that service kicks in ,and the made sandwich is taxable.
I expect it's like that everywhere, if it isn't, that's where I want to go.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.
550 Snowbike -Somebody had to do it.

Ahh there's nothing like being able to tax a tax like the UK do.   ::)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
