Newly rebuilt bike won't start. Help!!!!
« on: March 28, 2015, 01:06:55 AM »
Just finished putting my 75 550 back together. It has a big bore kit on it, Mac 4 into ones and a dynatek ignition. Bike will not start.
Has hot blue awesome spark. It seems a bit early on timing though. The dynatek says it needs to be at the 1-4 marks right after the f on the points plate. I can't get mine close to that. It's firing when the notch on the case lines up with the F.
I thought my plugs felt dry so I pulled the carbs and noticed that the intake boots were definitely wet with gas.
Bike is back firing very rarely when I turn the ignition off or crank on it for a while.
Any help would be great on this.

Sounds like Cal's suggestion is correct. The ign. mechanical advance cam may be installed 180d off. Reverse coil wires should do it. Plus you're correct with the timing on the "F" mark to start. Full advance between the two lines.

Tried the wire switch already. I didn't want it to be the cam but it looks like I'm pulling the valve cover. Thanks guys. I'll throw some pictures up when it's done as well
