Is this a autentic Yoshimura exhaust?????
« on: April 02, 2015, 01:24:14 PM »
Hello all,

I am looking at this Yoshimura exhaust that a older gentleman is selling, but I don't know to much about it to know if its a real Yoshimura or not? The gentleman says its real hand bent Yoshimura that he had bought in the mid 70's and was on his 75 CB750! He also used to race this bike and build them as well. He looks like he is a legit person but I rather be safe and sorry and pay way too much for it if its not real.
I took pic of a photo of his cb750 that had the exhaust on it. I hope some of the old timers can help since I wasn't alive in the 70's to know if it is legit, I tried researching but I can seem to find the old school Yoshi just the reissue?

Thank you guys for the help!!

The pipe might be legit, but I don't think they used riveted badges back in the 70's.  That badge looks modern.  That's not to say that someone didn't rivet a new badge onto an old pipe.

It looks welded on the #3 pipe. That's odd.

Frank,

Did Yosh rivet their badges back in the early 70s or do you think the owner put a modern badge on a vintage exhaust?

PS - This thread should be somewhere else, like SOHC bikes or high performance.

That pipe  has been repaired at some stage, the head pipes were never welded like that by Pops Yoshimura, I have seen how these pipes are made and they were never welded like that at all. The price should be adjusted acordingly. I'm not too sure about the badge but personally, I have only ever seen those badges on production style Yoshi pipes of that era, not the hand bent race pipes, I actually have 2 of those old style badges... ;) This pipe will not fit a 500 if thats what you had planned...? Did you know that you can buy new pipes with the hand bent head pipes from Japan quite cheap..?

That's a good pipe, buy it if it's priced right.

Mick - didn't we see another similar pipe recently that was repaired as well?

That is a member's pipe, and old bike.
Have seen both in person.
