Should I replace exhaust flanges?
« on: March 26, 2015, 04:43:12 PM »
My old flanges are pretty rusted and wore.  They clean up okay I guess, the picture shows two clean and one that I haven't touched.  Should I replace these or do they not affect the seal of the exhaust that much?  basically i don't really understand what they're for.

I have a Mac 4-1 Exhaust and I'll be using the stock Flower looking flanges.

The stock exhaust roses do not protrude into the recesses in the head to tighten the headers up against the gaskets. The flanges fit under the roses and behind the lip on the header, so when you nip everything up the header lip compresses the gasket.

As long as they are still solid I would reuse what you have.

+1 clean and reuse.  They are necessary to firmly seal the header to the head but are not visible after install.
