1976 Honda CB750K First Build
« on: March 26, 2015, 09:48:27 PM »
hey  everyone, I'm new here. 22 years so I'm new to this bike building world even though I've always been fascinated by old machines. this is my 1976 cb750k i just acquired. doesn't look like much but i got plans for it. progress will be slow, when i get money and time to work on it i will but i hope you enjoy my build. and I'm looking forward to hearing tips, advice and critique seeing as how i don't know much. thanks in advance

Ya I got a motor with it. The previous owent took it out. So i hope it won't be too challenging to put together. And that quote was under a piece of tape I took. I think it looked better though

so i had some time after work and i decided id go cut some tabs off...got a little carried away and took it all apart. but I'm not complaining. i cut off what i didn't need but i still have some cleaning up to do. didn't have too much trouble with rusted bolts. forks gave me a bit of a fight but got em off. slow progress but it'll get there

Might invest in a frame kit now before painting. It will greatly pay dividends down the road during install and servicing of your motor.

And wait on the frame painting. At least until you've finalized your mock up and tested your engine in place. Painting a frame is quick and easy but it suffers the most during builds as it gets knicked and knocked about.

+1 on the frame kit. I did mine for a top-end restore... but when it comes time to remove the engine at some point, it will be a godsend!

made my first seat pan but didn't like how it turned so i gave it another shot. i like this one a bit more than the first. now i need to get it ready for paint and get the seat done. i still need to trim up the edges do a little more work on it but thats the general idea.

thank you. its not too hard. I've never worked with fiberglass before so i had to get the hang of it. youtube how to build a cafe racer seat, and its the dime city cycles one. but what i learned as i was doing it, use smaller pieces of cloth. in the video he uses one big piece, thats what i did at first but its a lot harder if you you've never done it before. but ya give it a shot. its another thing i can say i did by myself

Yes I have worked with glass before, and I've seen the video too... Very straightforward project, just needs the time taken to do it right!

Yes. I've learned so far it's better to take the time and do it right instead of doing it again.

Here's how I will mount the seat pan to the frame. I will build and weld brackets to the frame for the bolts. I welded he bolts to the little bracket piece between both bolts to keep them from spinning when I tighten them. Then fiberglassed over them. I'm done with the glass work. Next step is to make it pretty

Do NOT sandblast the engine unless you are going to do a complete disassembly and clean it multiple times with liquid and compressed air.

You'd be surprised what people do.  It is a PITA to get every grit of sand out of every crevice.
