45 years old and still getting the looks
« on: March 25, 2015, 06:08:53 AM »
Riding the 750 KO home from work yesterday and stopped in the 5:00 traffic when I heard a horn blow. Turned and in the right lane and just behind me was a guy on what looked like a Yamaha V-Star trying to get my attention and yelling so I could hear him, what year is that and nice looking bike ;D

I'm sure others here have had the same thing happen to them!

happens all the time with all my classics. Amazing how many people USED to own/ride an old SOHC. Just had my K8 with sidecar out last night picking up a bunch of stuff at wally world and advance auto. Both places had someone ask me about the bike etc.

Yes it's a rewarding acknowledgement and besides your bikes deserve it too.

He just thought it was the 45 year old bike Steve  ;)  Think my wife and I have been in the antique biz too long, gets a little jaded sometimes and would not want to dare to become too politically incorrect nowadays.
It is very cool though at all the compliments and conversations you can get going by driving these around. Good way to put out the word you may be a buyer also once the conversation begins. I found my RD350 at a barstool with my bike parked behind the place with some others  ;D  Got other leads also just being on one.

I get a lot of looks from people too.  Typically they're accompanied by a raised middle finger...   ???

Mine died on me today not far from home and after pushing it a while a guy pulled up beside me and we started talking about these old bikes. Turns out he races flat trackers and has a garage full of vintage honda's ad yamaha's! Then a little ways after he went on his merry way another guy pulled up beside me (I was about 300 yards away from home at this point) and asked me what was wrong and if he could help. We got started discussing old bikes too and it turned out he has an old SOHC 750 sitting in a barn that he only wants $750 for! Got some details from him and waiting on some pictures. Just goes to show you never know who you'll meet in some crazy situations haha.

I ride with friends who have big twin Harleys and V-Stars. Invariably, my stupid little CB650 gets all the attention. Almost every time we stop for gas or whatever, someone comes up and asks about it, then proceeds with an old Honda story.

I cannot wait to start riding the wheels off my '76, hoping it gets the attention it deserves for the classic it is. I have a Sportster, too. It always fun when someone talks about how they had a Sportster many years ago, many wish they still had them. I get the same thing with my old XT350, and even with my '93 GSX-R, to a lesser degree. Motorcycle nostalgia is one of my favorite parts of the hobby.
