Oil pouring next to shifter!
« on: March 28, 2015, 08:34:13 AM »
Hello Everyone,

I just finished up my CB750K4 and rode it around town for a couple hours with no problems.  Then I put it on the side stand while running for a minute and oil started leaking out of the seal in front of the gear shifter.  I did replace that seal and that's probably the problem, but my question is there are the wires coming out of that (neutral indicator wires?) with a rubber gasket that is old.  Could oil be coming out of that area near the wires?  Or is it probably coming out of the seal?  Is there a replacement gasket for the wires coming out of that area?  Thanks for your help....not sure of the technical terms for that seal.

Try pinning down exactly where it is coming from. Clean it thoroughly and dry it. Spray some foot powder, or deodorant spray I guess would work too, on the suspect areas (just a thin coating) and go for a ride, then park is as you have and let it sit if necessary. You should be able to trace the source of the oil leak.

Did it leak before the seal was replaced? Is it leaking more now?

It sounds like you are referring to the rubber seal located between the tranny cover and alternator cover that have wires coming out. Yes, I had that same issue and the oil came from between those covers. You have to seal that rubber grommet back into the alternator cover. If that is the issue you do not have to remove the tranny cover again.
