New guy from Michigan!
« on: April 06, 2015, 06:15:03 PM »
Hi all! I've always had a love for these bikes growing up around my dads 76 550k that he bought new. Well about 6 years ago I was at a local Honda dealer getting the tire replaced on my 71 350 twin and saw they had a 76 550k for sale. The story was that the owner had some work done on the bike but never came and got it. So it sat for 14 years in their back room until they decided to get it running and sell it. Being only 19 at the time I didn't have much extra money but they let me make payments on it until I paid it off!

Welcome, and thanks for the story.  Lots of Michiganders here...whereabouts are ya?  That old gas station looks cool and vaguely familiar.
If it works good, it looks good...

Thanks everybody! I'm from Battle Creek but that gas station was down in Sherwood. Today was actually the first time I've had it out in 6 years. I rode it the first year I bought it but by the next season I had too much on my plate and it just kinda faded from my memory. I've been trying to get my dad to get his bike out too, his still looks like the day he bought it.

Hey from Kalamazoo, Seanbarney is also from here. Nice bike, have some other vintage bike friends over your way.  What kind of bike does your Dad have ?

He has a 76 Cb550k as well, which is really nice because he bought his brand new in 1977 so I have an all original bike to use as a guide sometimes. His has around 40k miles, mine just turned 16k today.

Our local VJMC has some organized rides during the summer and we usually meet at a vintage repair shop called Checkered Past in Galesburg just west of you. Anybody is welcome, do not have to be a member. Look for add/notice on CL and come out for a group ride and meet some fellow enthusiasts or PM contact info and I will try to notify.
