LA Sleeves
« on: March 21, 2015, 12:47:19 PM »
I've aquired a set of 4 large bore LA Sleeves. They have a 71mil bore and have a wall thickness of 5.5 mm .
I have a few questions .
(1) What size of pistons would these liners accommodate ?
(2) And, does anyone have a suitable set of pistons for sale ?
(3) Or could anyone recommend someone who could provide the appropriate pistons ?
Thanks in anticipation Greg "H".

Are the 71.00 or bit smaller, you will have to fit to the pistons .
They look tall will need trimming.

If you are saying the small OD is 82mm, they will have to be machined all over.
Centerline distance between the 2 left and 2 right cylinders is 80mm.
The sleeves will break out of the stock aluminum block between the left and right cylinders even at 78mm and will require sealing.
It is usually best to use a billet block when getting up in those sizes but the stock cylinder block was frequently used back in the day.
But you could run 73-74mm pistons in those sleeves if the proper machine work and sealing is done.

Thanks for the comments guys . I've been looking at the big bore set ups that are available from various people . It will probably work out less costly in the long run to use one of the complete big bore set ups which are currently sold by DYNOMAN ,Cycle X and APE etc .
Scottly, the cut off piece of crank was done for convenience . It had knackered journals so I used it to practice doing the sludge trap mods on , and also it's easier for my mate to handle for when he makes me a starter nut .

I think the RC blocks were cast, not billet, besides, I'd rather have one of Mike Reicks billet blocks, far superior..... ;)

+1 on the RC block is cast, +10 on the JMR Billet Blocks are far superior!

We would have to sell a minimum of 10 to break even on the tooling.  I might be inclined to pursue it if I thought there were at least 10 serious customers out there.

For me I would need to know the price.  Would love to have one of the blocks on the drag bike eventually.  If we had a ballpark price I would start asking around.

Are you talking carved out of billet with sleeves to look the same, or cast blocks
I for one wood love to have a real looking RC BigBlock

Cast just like the originals, except CNC final machining.

I'm probably going to go for the big liners into the stock block .
What would be the minimum liner wall thickness I could get away with with this set up ?
