76 cb400f flasher wiring
« on: April 09, 2015, 11:10:43 PM »
Made a rookie error the other day. I pulled the flasher unit out to buy a new one but did not write down which wire went on which connector. There is x, p, and l. Looking at the wiring diagram green wire goes to P. Grey and black seem to me to be a bit ambiguous.
I tried one combination and blew the main fuse. Tried the other combination and again the main fuse blew. Now I fear I may have buggered the new flasher.
If someone is able to enlighten me as to which wire goes where it would be much appreciated.

Green is ground in Hondaspeak, so if you used the green wire in any combination and tried the flasher, you sent power to ground which blew the fuse. That wire is unused. The black and the grey are used on the flasher. I do not think it matters which position they're in, but it should work one way or the other with no harm done.

More commonly the problem lay in the grounding of the turnsignals - they ground through their bases to a lug that then connects to the wiring harness green wire. I went through this in my build thread in some detail (look in my signature for a link)

What led up to them not working?

The flasher is probably fine, just connect up the black and gray in either position and try again.

At first the original flasher started playing up. A sharp rap with my knuckle would get it going again but eventually it stopped working, hence the new flasher.

Anyway, tried your suggestion and bingo! Thanks very much. I must not have noticed when I pulled the original out that the ground was not connected. I was in a bit of rush but goes to show a quick photo can save a lot of mucking around.

Had a quick look at your thread and I must say what epic and fantastic job. I will have a more indepth look at sometime for inspiration for another cb400f I have that is requiring major surgery and commitment.
