1975 cb400f cafe racer seat help
« on: April 05, 2015, 08:48:55 PM »
Hi everyone, I am currently needing some advice/guidance/help with my bike, you see I am wanting to change the original seat to a fibreglass cafe racer seat but I'd like to keep the seat hinge and lock. I'm sure it has been done before but for the life of me I cannot find any info. And how would I mount it?  My frame is waiting on these decisions from me before I go ahead and sandblast it for painting. If I can't find a solution to this I will just cut off the lock mech and hinge.
Any help with this would be great.
Cheers, JP.

Cal, if I could save my original seat pan I would. There are parts in my pan that I can push my finger through I'm sure haha.

I have what you need here. It's a sub frame to which you can mount your stock hinges to And your seat pain will bolt right up.  Let me post a picture-

hey 78whiteorbs, that looks great. I forgot to mention that my bike is a 400f, so your sub frame won't fit anyway. But thanks for the offer mate.

I actually own an 350f  which has an identical frame(in the seat area). All you would need to do is move the hinge mounts relative to the subframe. Pretty simple And I don't think you are gonna find a solution that allows you to not cut/ remove hinge mounts from your frame and permanently alter . They make a few fiberglass pans with designations for the hinges and key latch to mount for the cb750 I have seen (think Steve carpenter sells them) but not for a 400f. Goodluck and if you find another solution please post would love to see.
