Thanks to tendonitis in my left wrist, and an apparent circulation issue in my right hand (hand goes totally numb on the throttle).  The doctor has recommended I use a larger diameter handlebar grip.  IF I want to continue to enjoy riding and be safe (duh).

I've been digging around the internets for different grips and seems there aren't many options in the "Under $40" range.

So I ask SOHC members who have dealt with these sort of issues; what was your remedy to this issue?

 I bet something like these old school style replacements would work. They are larger around than stock and soft to the touch. My 78 CB750 had the turismo grips on it when I got it way back when. I always had a problem with tingling and numbness in my fingers on my throttle hand. Of course, I may be better at tuning and maintenance now, thus inadvertently quelling some of the vibrations, but I've been using Kuryakyn's ISO-Grips for some time now and they are by far the most comfortable grips I have ever had. At $80 they are pricey, but I would not hesitate to use them again.

i used grip puppies on my fj, they just slip over the existing grips, from personal experience i'd recommend them.

There is an old school fix that people have used for decades. Get a wooden pencil cut it to length then sit on the bike and put your hand on the twist grip, grasp it so that your hand is in the position that it would be when you drive normally then take the pencil and put it along the first joint from the tips, you've got a baseline then let the throttle go back too rest and use good quality electricians tape and tape the pencil down a couple of wraps climb back on the bike grab the throttle and check that it's in the right spot then finish taping it until is as big as you want. For me the pencil makes it easy to wind on the power I also believe that there are foam grips that will fit over said arrangement and make it more cosmetically perfect.

I've always liked these 'tittie grips'.

Any chance this hand problem originates in your neck?

I found my OURY grips more comfortable than the titty/GT grips. I was also getting numbness. Check your gloves, too. There may be a seam that is pinching a nerve or something.

I made this image for someone on another riding forum, and he switched gloves. Now he gets no numbness...

Carpal tunnel is a (literal) pain. I have a cyst on one of my finger tendons, and the symptoms were similar to CT, but numbness on top of my hand, radiating up my forearm. I had to take a break from playing music... when I was studying music. BUMMER.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  I saw the kuryakyn grips in the store the other day.  I have no doubt they're a comfy quality grip.  I was just looking for alternatives before biting the bullet on top-shelf bar grips.  The tape & pencil trick is something I could try today! hahaha

My doc doesn't think I've got carpal tunnel, since I'm young and don't spend all day at a computer.  But I have busted up my hands a multitude of other ways throughout the years!    Oddly enough, it's my other hand that goes numb when I'm out on my pedal-powered bicycle.

Part of me wishes I could use the thumb throttle from an ATV...but I'm prone to slamming those WFO at all times

  An aftermarket cruise control on the throttle could give your hand a little break in some 'safe' areas. I've bought several old 750's that have had those installed on them back in the day.
