Gear Tooth Face - cb750
« on: April 08, 2015, 01:10:43 AM »
Hi There,
I am about to replace the 48t counter shaft transfer gear and it meshing 56t final drive gear. I have just received what I thought was to be a new 56t gear but looking at the face's of each tooth I am not so sure. Can somebody help me out with what the surface of the teeth should look like. The surface finish on my "new" gear is somewhat polished, with only a small amount of the horizontal hobbing cut marks on some of the teeth. I tried taking a photo but ran out of ambient light, so the image is not sharp enough to describe the surface finish. will try again when the light is better.
My intention is to replace both gears with new ones as a set, as well as bearings as I was under the belief that a worn gear and a new gear were not compatible.
I bought the gear from what I believe to be a reputable supplier, they state the parts are new. Before I query the supplier I would like to have a little more knowledge.

Cheers,
