Is it an F2 or F3?
« on: March 02, 2009, 11:33:36 PM »
I've seen the/my 78 cb750f referred to as an F2 and an F3.  How do I tell the two apart? Which is correct?

In the US a '77 750 Super Sport is an F2. The '78 model is an F3.

Hap, we've just been refering to both the '77 & '78 as F-2.

Thank you for the clarification.  So, as far as parts are concerned, the F2 and F3 should be the same correct? I mean F2 parts will fit my F3?

The script on the side covers is different. F2 is upright, F3 slanted. Nothing else is different AFAIK. There are others here who know more. :)

There are a few cosmetic and mechanical differences, but they are of little consequence unless you intend a restoration. The easy answer is that F2 parts will fit your F3, no problems.

Hap, we've just been refering to both the '77 & '78 as F-2.

We who? ??? ;)

As has been posted they are basically the same. '77 carbs have adjustable clips where the '78's don't. The '78 has some emission "upgrades" not on the '77. The '78 has nicer side cover badges ;D ;D ;D. There might be something slightly different in the '78 top end but I'm not recalling it if there is.

Mike

That has always been unanimous here, even the F2 guys agree. ;D
