BEST FORK BRACE FOR THE $$$ ?
« on: April 18, 2007, 10:57:47 AM »
yO,

I am in need of two fork braces (one for the CB450 and one for the CB750).
Both of bikes have no front fenders and are in need of something up front.
I am really not a fan of the generic ones (see below) I see on ebay, thus my question...

Anyone running a cool/good looking brace ? I would perfer the ones that bolt onto the lower legs themselves (as I have seen before), but I am open to whatever..

If you could:
1. Post a pic of what you are running on your bike
2. Post whatever comments u might have
3. Include where you purchased it from (links are a good thing)

Looking for something like this (that will fit on my bikes) -->

The one for the 750 is gonna need to be a three piece, so I can modify it to clear my 21'' front wheel..
Would be nice if the one above would fit..
As usual, all help is greatly appreciated.... ;D

You might remember I did one a while back...looks just like that Sportster brace you posted, but was like $8 on ebay.  Added some spacers to clear the tire and it works great.  It's a lot more rigid than the stock fender brace.

That was before the cafe craze got going on ebay.  I see the same braces for $50 now if "cafe" or "CB750" is in the title.  Anyway, measure the diameter of your forks where you will mount it, and the distance between the centerlines of the forks.  Those are the critical dimensions, but just about anything can be tweaked a little bit.

Thats def. what I am looking 4 on the CB750. Is that brace gonna fit my CB750 if it is on your CB400 (Figure the spacing would be bigger on a CB750)..Also how is it running no dust covers ? Does fluis fly around everywhere ?

The cheapest I can find a brace like that is $50  ::)

I have one of those too and it's a very well made brace. I bought it on ebay a few years ago from a seller that had a lot of them. He kept selling them one after the other over a period of weeks. They were NOS and would go anywhere from $35 to $60-70. I bought one of the last ones he sold for the CB750 for $35 at around 2 in the morning. I set my alarm to bid on it and was the only bidder.  8)

You might want to contact Terry. He has made a similar one though I don't know if he's made more than one.

You guys know by chance if a brace for a 72 cb750 will work with a 74 cb450 ?
I am guessing not, but stranger things have happened..

Just bought the sporty brace for a whopping $52.00 shipped to my door.
That one is gonna go on the CB750, and now I still need to source one out for the CB450... :-\

The spacing can be adjusted between the forks.  That cross piece has slots that will allow it to adjust about 1/4" in or out.  You could always make those slots bigger or even make your own cross piece whatever size you want out of some flat aluminum stock.  Just make sure the clamps that go over the fork lowers will fit on your bike.  You can probably shim or bore them out a little to make them work.

Running without dust covers isn't a big deal unless you ride in bad weather or leave the bike outside.  You won't get oil on you unless your fork seals are blown (like my left one).  I'm replacing it pretty soon along with doing some other front end stuff.

Good to know.
I guess when I get it I will see if it can be made to fit the CB450, and if it does I will order up another one. On the CB750 I am gonna have to make some pretty tall spacers to clear that hige tire I have, but I think it will all workout..

The last time I rode the CB750 on the tollway was enough to make me want a fork brace  ::)
I think my swingarm bushings are taking a crap as well..

I like that one.  Who makes/sells it?  It's subtle and doesn't have that mechanized look that modern bikes/components have.

I don't know specifically where to get one but I think it's an old school design. That image is from a google search. Try ebay or a google search? Maybe someone else will know where to get one?

Not sure, for a Honda. But, you can get them for an XS650 Yamaha and maybe redrill them to fit the Hondas. http://www.mikesxs.net/  $ 59  Black Or Chrome

And as far as fit goes, just about anything is adaptable.  ;D

Another possibility for mounting the tubular fork brace (for the Yamaha 650), would be to make a couple of plates drilled tho fit the brace on one end and to fit the fork leg on the other end, then just bolt it together tightly. With the skills that have been seen on this site, that shouldn't be a problem.
