Master cylinder rebuild question...
« on: April 19, 2015, 03:47:30 PM »
I've got the MC off the bike and have ordered the kit, but I can't get past the first step! I can't get that damn clip that holds the rubber boot on, out of it. It's pretty well corroded and I can't get anything under the end of the clip to lift it out. I can't even figure out how to destroy it so it will come out.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim

First tear that rubber out of there best you can. Then I leave it sit overnight with some PB Blaster. Then I use a small mechanics pick to get the clip out. The clip is the easy part...wait until you try to get the cir-clip out.

Thanks for the help. I tore the rubber out and have it soaking now. I'll give it another try tomorrow. I expected the circ-clip to be a bear but didn't anticipate this much trouble with this clip.

Did you order a Honda kit or aftermarket?

Oh no, I feel a warning coming on - I think it's a K&L kit. Is that bad?

You will have to insert the rubber seal over the piston when you get it.
