cb650 shorter shocks
« on: February 24, 2011, 08:26:42 PM »
I want to lower the rear of my '82 cb650. Does anyone know of an aftermarket shock, or one from a different make/model,
that is about 2 inches shorter? Any help is very appreciated. Thanks

Why? however you can get 2 1/2" lowering blocks from JCwhitney. If you can't sit with both feet flat it could be your seat is to wide or tall or a PO has changed something.

It's partly for looks. Also the rear sits higher & when I hit the brakes I have to grab the tank with my knees. I looked in the FAQ and found a topic about cycle x shocks for the 750. Does anyone know if they interchange between the 650 & 750.

'79 CM 400 has shorter shocks and they bold right up.

If your 650 is bucketing so badly I would be seriously checking the fluid in the forks!
650's don't duck and dive like that unless the springs are knackered or the wrong fluid or levels are way down.
Also remember there may be some carb issues if you lower the rear too much and the bowls may tilt back and upset the floats....probably not but hey if the bike starts to cough when you ride it could be something to check.
Good call on the 400 shocks, the lowering blocks really upset the rake and cornering of these bikes, the rear shocks end up set too far back to travel correctly and you might as well have a rigid frame. :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, do the shocks on the CM 400 have the right dampening to work safely on the 650?  I'd like a slightly lower stance as well, but if it's going to negatively affect safety and handling, I'll pass.
Two wheels, three wheels, four wheels or more...If it moves, I can drive it.
