I followed the wire start to finish and everywhere in between. I appreciate everybody's input, but I really think its the sensor. I'll let you guys know how it pans out when I get it.

1979 CB750 Limited Edition

If the light is on when lead disconnected from sensor, there is a short to earth at some point. Make sure you check for trapped wire and correct colour code in case swapped over at some point.

Okay guys, I figured it out. The Oil pressure and brakes run through a module that controls the stop light. I had replaced my tail with an LED weeks ago, but had forgotten about it since I have had other issues with the bike that just got resolved. The LED drew so little power that the module told the light to turn on because it thought it blew the taillight thanks a ton guys.

Interesting, sort of primeval "check engine light".

I couldn't see the forest through the woods! Definitely was a learning experience, and I got a kick out of the "check engine light" type feature, so archaic lol

For riders of ALL old bikes: I paid $14 for two 1157 LED bulbs. I just assumed that LED bulbs would be better, they're not. I'm sure there is some sort of adaptation you can make but the LED bulbs were SIGNIFICANTLY dimmer. So don't buy them unless you know what you're doing.

I’m having the same issue with the same bike.  How did you fix the problem exactly?  Did you remove the led taillight or were you able to install a resistor to fix the problem?
