I've come back to the world of the CB four Hondas
« on: September 14, 2014, 06:15:19 PM »
Howdy, all!

So, as you can probably tell by the title, I'm not new to CB ownership.

20 years ago, I bought a 1980 CB750C as my first bike.  A year and 3 days later, I laid it down, totaling it and putting myself in the hospital for 3 day.
Two years after that, I joined the Navy, married a national of the country I was stationed in, lived in the U.S. for a few years, then moved to my wife's home country and spent 10 years there. I've recently moved back, got a great new job and started looking for a bike.  It had to be a Honda, and I started looking for an older CB.  Wanted a 750 again, but the prices of bikes in my area are stupid expensive for bikes that either barely run or don't even run at all.

Found this little gem for a steal.

Bought it and then 2 days later, got on the road and have been gone til this past Friday.

So, I have some plans for it and I am hoping that I can find some info, some inspiration and hopefully some new friends who might be in my area.

Talk at ya'll later!

Two wheels, three wheels, four wheels or more...If it moves, I can drive it.

Hey, gang.  Sorry for not replying lately.  I've been crazy, and I mean crazy, busy with work the past 5 months.

Nothing has been done with the bike as of yet, but I've got some time off coming and I hope to get with my friend while I'm home and start getting this old girl torn down and get working.

Once I get started, I'll try to get some pictures posted.

Hope everyone had a good holiday season.

Welcome from North Carolina. What State you in?

I live in Illinois, but I travel all over the U.S. for work.  I was in NC last summer for about two weeks in Greensboro and Charlotte.

Have had a couple of really productive weeks on the CB.  Got it stripped down to a rolling chassis (frame, front and rear suspension and wheels.)  Now it's completely stripped.  Got the frame and swing arm prepped and painted last weekend. The engine is being done by a mechanic friend of mine.  It's in mostly good shape but the head gasket was toast, rings on 1 and 2 cylinders need replaced and in turn the valves need cleaned.

Waiting to order a new top and bottom gasket kit, as well as new rings across the board.

Have also purchased an 81 CB900 gas tank and had to modify the neck area where it mounts to the rubber bushings on the backbone to fit and will also have to modify either the frame mounting area or the end of the tank to make it fit.

Still a long way to go, but getting excited about hoping it will be done by summer.  Have a personal deadline of June 19th to get it finished.

So, after some reading, I think I'm going to stick with the stock airbox/filter set for my bike, but I am planning on running a MAC exhaust.  Just too much work for me because I travel so much.  I want to be able to get on my bike and ride whenever I'm home and not have to worry about messing around with carb tuning and all that crap.
