I went to look at a cherry Vega Kammback once. I had a friend call ahead and he knew I was coming. When I got there he said someone by my name already looked at it made him mad and now he wasn't selling it. It's still in his driveway under a cover 5 years later.

Too little honor these days in my opinion but that was how I was raised. A man's word should mean something.

I like to quote someone whose name I can't remember: "The only thing a man keeps beyond the grave is his reputation."

Unfortunatley there is too little honor on craigslist these days now that some people try and make a living selling their garbage on it. BUt I am always a little surprised when I sell something to someone who is as greatful for the deal as I am. There are still some nice people on there but they are getting few and far between. EBAY has always been a buyer beware type of deal.

When a prospective buyer convinces me that he's serious, I hold the item for him. I take honour seriously.

I would like to be able to commit to holding an item for someone that absolutely promises me he will pay me Tuesday for a hamburger today.
The problem with that is there are way too many CL flakes out there and the first gentleperson to lay the required amount of smackers in my grimey palm gets the prize.

I've sold a number of audio/music gadgetry on the old craigslist.  Usually I can find a buyer willing to meet at a neutral zone, and willing to pay my asking price, or at least close to it.

But my worst CList experience was when I made a vehicle trade with a local fellow.  He needed a gas-saving commuter, and I wanted a pickup truck to haul my ATV around.  Thought I'd had a done deal until he hits me with a bombshell.  There was a second owner on the title that just HAPPENED to be a used car dealer, with an outstanding balance on the truck.  I was lucky to get away with only paying a part of the balance, but it was still a shock.  Then the lovely conversation with the dealership sales manager that went something to the effect of "Your buyer forfeited this vehicle to me, and I can't transfer ownership until you've signed off too.  I've already reported my vehicle sold, and I'm not in the habit of driving around in an unregistered truck.  As for securing the remaining balance your customer has on this truck, that is a conversation you'll want to have with him."
I felt like a champ for how I handled the situation, and the dealer dude signed off on the papers.  Not that he was happy about it either.
