Went for a new seat last night. Its not easy! I like (not love) the finished product...its a lo better than the ripped up king queen :) if i found other material later on i might try again, but for now it will keep my ass comfy and dry. Cut my finger wide open too with the meat cutter, lest i forget my seat experience the scar will remind me!

An old electric knife works great for cutting and shaving foam, an old upholstery trick.

so does sharpened hacksaw blades.  Air angle grinders are what all the seat manufactures use.  Sorry about your finger.

How is she running?  Go on any more rides?

Glad to hear you are having fun with the bike.  That is the main thing.  You might want to check your piolet jets and make sure they are all clear.  Drop your bowls and see how much junk is in there.  Waking up an old bike is a bit of a song and dance.  You make progress, but setbacks are part of the adventure.

You will notice a big difference after your tuneup.

I think. It's only the last two years of carb rack where you can run idle speed screws on either side.

If your still having problems with it blubbering and maybe stalling out a low speeds or stop dump out the carb bowls and blow out with compressed air.

I had this happend to me today.  I am calling "The great stallathon of 2015"  Stalled at ever stop light or stop sign.  Got home dumped the bowls and all is well.  When you first wake a bike up you gotta do that dance.

As for the crash bars maybe he keeping them for a future mad max makeover?  Could probally mount something useful on them.  Maybe install dual floorboard for the dual gimps.

You could mount highway pegs on them.  As for desirable, I don't like anything that make me think of crashing when I am riding.  I don't like how they hit stuff when moving my bike around either.

Ha!

Just took off carbs and noticed the intake boots (even though fully tightened) seem to be a little wiggly by hand. Should they be solid tight? Can i add a sealant to be sure? Thanks guys!

"wiggly" is subjective.  Did the carbs practically fall off?  I got these for 1/2 the price of OEM, the work ok, but they are only marked 1 and 2,

I still can't get over how GOOD that bike looks considering the price.

Invest in better clamps for the carb manifolds... http://www.cb750cafe.com/products-page/hardware-clamps/stainless-steel-hose-clamps/

Get better clamps. Old boots shrink and the flimsy old clamps stretch and can only tighten so far with their built in stops.  I change them out on most of my bikes right away with better when doing its first new to me tune-up. Might even help the running if your leaking air. Do the spray test with carb cleaner etc. to check.

Try to stay away from the ones where the whole band is totally serrated as those can tear up the rubber too much. I have bought some 10 packs at Menards that are stainless and when tightened are mostly a solid band with a very minimal amount of serration buy the tightening bolts if you get the correct size.  The excess on the ends need to be trimmed/cut off which I do before mounting.

They tend to have sharp edges. The ones I posted above have rolled edges and the grooves for the gear are smooth as well.
