Fork Spring Loose?
« on: May 02, 2015, 01:17:58 PM »
I was out for a ride today (350F) and started hearing a clunk when I hit bumps. Then when coming to a stop while braking slightly I began hearing a rattle. I sounds to me like its coming from the springs in one of the tubes. I haven't had these apart before but does it make sense to anyone that these noises are coming from the spring or springs?

Before you tear anything apart check that the brake caliper isn't moving on it's bracket pin causing the clunk. Roll it back & forth and grab the brake to see if you can hear anything. It'll be worse on the street with more brake force applied.

I think I have the clunk you've described on my '75 CB550F, bwaller. Is that possible?  How would I confirm and fix?

If it was just when going over bumps, I would suggest it might be a cable slapping your headlight bucket (happens on mine)... but if also when braking, follow bwaller's advice.

Check if the Allen screws under the axle are tight. When I first got my bike it was clunking. Jacked it up, took the wheel off and one of the fork bottoms detached. Screw unscrewed itself   ::)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
