Topic: CR750 Oil Tank Capacity

i have a Bartels aluminum oil tank I'm going to use on my CB750 street bike. One question I can't find an answer to: what is the running capacity of this tank? Three and a half quarts doesn't fill the system/tank very high - should I use four full quarts? Five? "Fill it until overflows"seems kind of Stone Age with all the knowledge I know exists in this forum. also, how do you "dipstick" a tank that doesn't have one? Can anyone enlighten me?

The Honda spec from the sports kit manual calls for 4 liters with the CR oil tank. I have a tank similar in size to the Bartel tank and use one gallon. I actually use a stock CB750 cap/dipstick to check the level as it leaves about the same amount of airspace in the tank. Note the Bartels tank also has fittings for an oil catch tank that will need to be dealt with.

JohnN, can the fitting for the catch tank be connected to the drain spigot on the rear of the crankcase, just like the stock system?

The crankcase vent should be connected directly to the oil tank. The catch tank only accumulates excess oil that could splash/spray out of the tank under pressure. The catch tank also has a return line so that oil can flow back into the main tank.

...I have a filter equipped catch tank/breather that I'm going to use, and thanks for the capacity advice. Now all I have to do is fabricate a dipstick for the tank and we're golden.

Instead of a dipstick, consider a sight glass.
