Long cruise - blown fuse
« on: October 16, 2006, 07:36:58 AM »
Went on a long cruise with a couple of vintage buddies (and a dude on a crotchrocket) here in Cleveland. It was a nice but rather cool day here. We did about 140 miles total with several stops along the way to smell the roses. It was the longest ride for me on my 550K. I have to say that I was impressed about how smooth this thing runs and how comfortable it was on the highway. We hit a lot of twisties too, and the thing handled very well. I did have a problem around mid-day. The main fuse blew. It happened at a stop. Luckily I had a spare 15A. I'm not sure why it blew, but after I replaced it, we rode another 50 or so miles. Despite being cold and windy, I opened it up on the way home. I'm not sure if my bike likes the cold weather or if it really responding well to the seafoam that I've been running, but it's really been running very well. Sad to say, this season is almost over.

Well, enough of the stream of consciousness. The jist: I like my bike.

Was not able to do any long runs this year but yesterday since it was almost 60, I went for a ride. About 40 miles or so and it was nothing but smooth running. 60 was so smooth, I just knew that the ride would be good. I was able to go out by myself, while riding in a group is safer and you are with friends, there is nothing like riding alone. Gives a person time to think.  That K8 seat absorbed all vibrations and is so damn comfortable!

Geeze, I rode out to an old Harbor Frieght.  Got a rain check on a dremel tool.

I've had a number of main fuse blowouts on my '77 550K.  Never have been able to track down why.

15A fuses, Don't leave home without some!

oh, the weather here has been crappy, but that's no excuse to not go out for a ride!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I plan on riding until it snows here in Cleveland... I'm not sure why my fuse blew either, but haven't had any problems since. I did stop at the first gas station to buy new fuses. I was lucky there was a spare in there already. I guess I have the PO to thank because I overlooked it.
