Hello from Rural Nebraska!
« on: April 30, 2015, 02:49:05 PM »
Hello everyone!  I'm an hour away from the nearest Wal-Mart and Taco Bell; so, so inconvenient. Several years ago I was given a 1971 CB750 from my in-laws.  Not knowing anything about motorcycles I proceeded to at least get it running - new plugs, fresh gas, cables, and the like. Found that the carb slides were installed upside down! Got it running but still had tuning issues. I ditched the fairing and the saddle bags - the windshield was broken off anyway. Ditched the swiss cheese HM300's and got a Mac 4 into 2.

I learned how to ride and then took the local MSF course.

Then I found out how horribly restrictive Nebraska was in regards to vehicle titles.  The in-laws couldn't find the title.  I tried to apply for a lost title and was told I could only do that if it was previously titled in my name.  Hmm...  I gave up.  For years it sat in my barn.  They eventually found the title.  I found that it was last titled in Colorado in 1976 and my in-laws purchased it in 1991, never titling it themselves.  Due to life, jobs, divorce, kids, finances, whatever, it sat for a few more years.  Until just a couple of months ago that is. Got a vin inspection from the sheriff; a deputy was nice enough to come to my house.  Title and insurance documents in hand I got it registered and titled in my name.  Yay!  That was a huge hurdle for me.

I've started a complete restoration, not museum quality, but it will be a nice weekend rider.  It is now totally dismantled and I'm about to either disassemble the engine or strip and repaint the frame, I haven't decided yet. I have taken many photos to document the process and to help me put it back together.  I have purchased Hondaman's book btw, and have been learning from several of the beautiful project threads on this forum.  Many thanks!

This bike will be unusual here to say the least around here.  We have a population of about two thousand.  The bikes here are mostly Harleys with a couple of smaller Japanese bikes thrown in.

And yes, I have been learning (some call it lurking) for quite some time now.
