Valve bounce
« on: April 30, 2015, 02:13:07 AM »
These Norton guys are thorough. Here they have a special camera to show slo-mo of a valve bouncing in the seat at 9k rpm. I guess he's got to figure out everything from best springs to use and best possible  contact area between rocker and valve and how cam shafts are bending, how to eliminate it and about  everything else possible.

I think these are mostly the guys at Colorado Norton who have a big truck at Barber Vintage, One of the guys rides a bike down all the way, I think he threw a con rod one trip.

Interesting I wonder how much the springs rippling contribute to the float. Also of interest BSA's 50's racing development is still used and considered advanced I also wonder if PE Irving's interest in BSA Gold Star valving had some thing to with that. Any how really intriguing.

Don't want to mince words but isn't the technical term 'valve float'?

Depends how tight assed the mechanic is and how far away from trade school.
