New K6 in So Cal
« on: April 28, 2015, 05:45:42 PM »
New member here. Name is Michael. Age 66, live in mission viejo California. I just acquired my second CB750, a K6. The first one was a '71 which I bought when it was almost new in my early 20's. That one is long gone.

Bought the bike last Tuesday from a terrific gentleman in Detroit. Via Cycyletrader ad.
He picked me up from the airport took me to his home. We did the deal, I loaded the bike with my luggage and proceeded to ride home to California.

The bike and I made it in 6 days. No problems over the 2500 mile adventure. Well I had one problem, the battery died at 80 miles. My heated clothing was too much for it. So much for staying warm. I pressed on without the benefit of the heated garment.

Bad weather aside. From the start we faced 40 degree , wet and windy days. The worse part was getting thru Colorado, where we rode thru what I can only describe as a tornado, that tossed the bike around like a twig, then 30 degree, rain, snow and high winds thru the rookies. I don't think I stopped shivering till I got to California.
What a testament to a great bike , 39 years old and still willing to run.

The highlite of the trip was that Hondaman (Mark) invited me to stop by while passing thru Denver. Great visit. He told me a few things about the bike. Like one of the 4 pipes is actually a HM300. And that the reason the front turn signals may be different is that Honda ran out of parts towards the end of the '76 production and sourced parts from other lines.  But he said the bike appeared to be well cared for and a great find.

I intend to restore to original form. Scheduled a engine rebuild with Mark towards end of the year. In the meantime I will be sourcing correct turn signals, correct pipe to replace the one HM 300 etc.
Glad to be back on a Honda.
Michael

Welcome aboard great adventure.. Some would be scared to go that far on a bike they just bought, and this early in the year  .Obviously you have the trust in them that former owners usually have.
So how did you know about Hondaman?

I learned of Hondaman from this forum. Been reading it for couple years. I texted him a few times over the last year about bikes.
