So long story short, I saw the screw holding this thing on and decided it should come off. Upon picking up my screwdriver (a good JIS one none the less) it immediately went round-shaped. Thinking it may be loctited, I gave it some heat then turned to a screw extractor and the head immediately popped off leaving whatever was left in the hole. I then took the extractor to that and promptly destroyed the entire hole. Here is the aftermath:




In that entire process the screw never let up at all. At this point I cannot even tell if there's anything left of the screw remaining in there, and the hole is off center which would make tapping it a pain. Anyone ever tried to get this thing off with any success, or is it best left on for all eternity? Should I just cut my losses and buy a new #2 carb?

Put down the tools and contact forum member harisuluv.  He's probably got what u need.

Pretty common, that one can be really tight. 

If you're confident with your ability to drill it out or tap it/helicoil/something it's not real vital that it is a perfect machining job.

If not I do have some bodies (#2).  I keep a pretty good selection around that are already cleaned and essentially ready to go.

Thanks for the replies. How much are the bodies? I think I'll have a go at tapping this one but in the very likely event I destroy it I'll be in the market for a replacement.

It depends on condition.  Average useable with some cosmetic flaws, maybe minor pitting, around $25 shipped.  A pristine body with almost no corrosion/pitting, no damage, never been pried off and messed up, good plating (if applicable) low mileage, $50 shipped. 

spares are already soda blasted.

Mind sending me a picture of something in average/a little above average condition? I don't mean to be a pain but I'd like something that somewhat matches the condition of the other three carbs, and those are definitely not pristine. Thanks!
