Left Side Mirror will not tighten

I have a 1976 CB750F that came with only a plastic left side mirror.  I replaced it and added a right side CB750 mirror.  The right side mirror tightened down.  The left side mirror threaded in but would not tighten down.  Any ideas how to fix this?

Maybe the thread is worn out, you could helicoil it?
