Greetings from SoCal
« on: May 03, 2015, 03:58:20 PM »
Hey everyone,

So I've decided to take on the next endeavor in my life an get myself a motorcycle. As you may have already guessed, I've decided to get a SOHC.

I'll be quite honest though, I'm not entirely sure what all the differences between the different models/years. Aside from a few aesthetic differences,  from what I understand, the 77/78 are mechanically reliable (read less maintenance) but the earlier years produce a little more power. Either way, I'm looking to get whatever I can get my hands on within budget. If anyone has a guide on what a first time buyer should look for when inspecting a SOHC bike, please feel free to share. I'm kind of going in blind but have researched basic things to look for on a used bike.

I've already purchased most of my riding gear (ATGATT, shout-out to r/motorcycle) so the last thing I need is my bike.

I think I'll be looking to get one that's in running shape and personalize it over time as that's what most people here on the forums are recommending. I'm mechanically inclined for the most part so I wouldn't mind putting some work into the first to get it into tip top running shape.

Anyone wanna share their first bike/first SOHC stories?

Don't quite have the bike just yet but if you're referring to the gear, I'll definitely get it up when I get home.

OR-TEEE-GA  OR-TEEE-GA ;D    How far are you from it?  I don't live in CA, but I've been on that road.
Wish i was younger. It'd be on the bucket list. Good luck on the hunt for an SOHC4. They're a blast.
