smoke out of breather
« on: June 05, 2017, 10:13:26 AM »
Been riding the 550 and it runs well no problems.  Noticed it has been smoking a little out the breather.  I checked to see if the top end is getting oil by looking into the tappet caps while the engine is running.  There is oil slothing around in there.  I also rebuilt the oil pump awhile back.  Is this somewhat normal or do I have a concern here?
Thanks

My 750 does that too. Before and after a top end rebuild. Sometimes it's as simple as condensation burning off, especially if you park it somewhere cold overnight. Usually mine is gone after a long ride, but not always. Like the last guy said, make sure all your maintenance items are up to date - can chain tension, valve clearance, points (if you have them), timing, oil change etc - if you've still got a bit of smoke I wouldn't worry. Is it white? Blue smoke usually indicates burning oil. Mine is white, water vapour
