cb400f Broken Bleeder need advice Solved!
« on: May 12, 2015, 06:52:34 PM »
So I was helping my buddy with his 400f today and one bolt breaks and sticks in the caliper backing and then the bleeder breaks off.  Looked as though it had not ever been taken apart.

I successfully drilled and taped both.  Only problem is that the seat got  bugged up a bit.  I drilled and tapped the next size up M8x1.25 and it seals just fine, but is flat on the bottom of the seat.  Also the bleeder valve does not come to a point it is just tapered a little.

Is this going to make a difference.  I got another 400f with a broken bleeder in that one.

I looked at bleeder banjo bolts and inserts which are not an option on this tiny caliper.

Open to suggestions.

Thanks this helps.  They even have a complete kit on Ebay for $179 caliper body, back plate, seal, bolts, piston and bleed screw.  Was hoping for a fix.

Isn't there a guy here who fixes these?

Sent him a PM.  These smaller calliper with their tiny bleed screws seem to snap very easily compared to cb750s.  Never had a 750 bleeder snap.  Have come across 3 that have issues.

Flying J hooked me up.  You can get a kit from almost any parts store or online

http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-Help-13916-Brake-Bleeder/dp/B000CO8ZVU

It is a threaded insert (seat), and the valve for about $5

You will need a 22/64" drill and 1/8 npt tap.

A drill press or mill helps too.  The doorman 13916 is a nice part, and I would consider it an upgrade.

So for drill bit, tap, and part it is about a $20 repair.  Satisfaction priceless.

FWIW, I had this same issue on the rear caliper on my CB750F, and ended up sending it to Speed Bleeder. They drilled out the old one for me & installed one of their products & returned it to me for $19, including shipping.

$19 bucks!  You must be dating the CEO's daughter.  That is a great deal.
