Cb750 oil filling priming question!!
« on: May 11, 2015, 04:56:52 AM »
Good morning all!! So here's my question and I'm sorry if it's been asked already.  So during my seemingly endless project I had the engine out of the bike and installed a new camshaft and basically a engine gasket kit also the "oil stopper" from one of the forum members. Well, it's finally going back together and over the weekend I filled the oil tank up with oil hoping to get it all primed up before I fired it up for the first time. So I filled the tank, cranked it with the button briefly(when reinstalling the oil pump I submerged it in oil and spun it by hand till air bubbles stopped coming out)  then rechecked the oil level in the tank....didn't drop at all!! So what gives?? Should I remove the plug on the right side of the motor and pour some oil in there? Is there not enough engine vacuum built up to pull the oil stopper open and allow oil to enter the engine??? Thanks all!!! happy Monday!!!

Every oil change I cranked the engine to prime the oil pump.  Timed it once, it took 50 seconds for the oil pressure light to go out.

Just keep cranking it will get there.

It will need more cranking over than just hitting the button "briefly" to se oil level drop.  I remember kicking mine over with plugs out 30-40 times, then the button, then firing it up watching for light to go off and tappet covers off to watch for oil up top. Give all that a try.

Fill the oil tank then pour the rest down the head through the tappet covers to let it get to the pan.
