false morel
« on: May 02, 2015, 12:24:32 PM »
Some people are finding the false Morel Mushrooms around here, they look similar but more smooth on the sides. Don't eat them.
I've never seen them before that I remember.

On a real morel the cap is connected to the stem on the bottom.   A false morel is not.  More like a cap. At least in N. Michigan anyway.

Thinking about it now I almost tried to prepare some false morels that were in my front yard.
Luckily they went bad before I had a chance to cook them.  :o

I did some work on my neighbors boat trailer, he tried to pay. I asked him if he knows how hard it is to find a good neighbor! A plate of hot freshly cooked morels appeared this afternoon around dinner time.

Dang, that sounds like perfect remuneration to me.

Chewy like squid eh, try cooking the squid very fast on a hot pan/BBQ, or soak it in milk first for half an hour then do the same, I haven't eaten chewy squid for years... ;)
